The textile and fashion industry faces an urgent challenge, millions of tons of fabric are discarded everyday, straining natural resources and overflowing landfills. At Saahas Zero Waste, we envision a future where textile waste is addressed within the framework of a circular economy. India generates approximately 7.8 million tons of textile waste annually, with over 50% coming from post-consumer sources such as discarded clothing and home textiles. Our mission is to address this challenge by creating a formal, transparent, and circular textile waste management system.
By aligning with SWM Waste Management Rules and Best Waste Governance (BWG) guidelines, we ensure compliance and sustainability in every step of the process. Through innovative solutions, we reduce reliance on virgin materials and mitigate environmental impact.
We collect textiles from corporates, households, industries, and organizations via organized drives or bins. Sorting happens at Textile Recycling Facilities (TRFs), where materials are classified based on condition, quality, and composition into rewearable and non-wearable categories. These are then directed to authorized downcycling, recycling, or upcycling units within our circular textile ecosystem, ensuring no landfill waste. Reusable fabrics are upcycled into new products like bags, pouches, and decor items by self-help groups, closing the loop. Clients get Diversion Certificates for tracking ESG and sustainability efforts.
The textile industry is the second-largest employer in India but also a major source of waste. Our Textile Recovery Facility (TRF) showcases a solution for managing both pre- and post-consumer waste.
